The Prime Minister on "Domenica In," the Left accuses RAI of becoming "TeleMeloni." Conte's 2020 record and Gentiloni's appearance on Baudo's show.

A "controversy about nothing" surrounding Prime Minister Meloni's video-linked appearance on "Domenica In" with Mara Venier, aimed at supporting the candidacy of Italian cuisine for UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage. Yet, criticism and attacks from the opposition were swift, accusing her of turning public service television into a showcase for her own propaganda.
Criticisms from +Europa, M5s and Pd+Europa Secretary Riccardo Magi had harsh words: "The stage of one of the most-watched programs on public television was used for a rally by the center-right leader just before an important regional election." "RAI has hit rock bottom," declared Five Star Movement representatives on the RAI Oversight Committee. "On Domenica In, Mara Venier thought it was a smart idea to stage an interview with Giorgia Meloni about her Sunday cooking habits, as if she were the friendly aunt from the building next door."
Elly Schlein also commented on the matter, stating: "Giorgia Meloni continues to refuse to come to Parliament to explain what Italy will do regarding the recognition of the State of Palestine and sanctions against the Israeli government. Yet she continues to find time to make election commercials on public service broadcasting. Today she explains to us on RaiUno, the flagship channel of her TeleMeloni, which lunches and which pastries she prefers to eat on Sundays."
Conte and Gentiloni's precedentsPrime Minister Meloni has faced numerous and harsh attacks for her appearance on Domenica In. Yet, as she herself recalls, "long gone are the days when, on the same program, the Democratic Party prime minister would be interviewed for 45 minutes." It was, in fact, March 5, 2017 , when then-Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni (Democratic Party) was a guest of Pippo Baudo in the Domenica In studios. The speech, in fact, lasted more than 40 minutes , during which Gentiloni spoke without reservations about the government's priorities and plans.
But that's not all: another prime minister was also a guest on Domenica in . It was February 23, 2020 , when Giuseppe Conte participated via video link at the invitation of Mara Venier . However, the tragic historical moment the country was going through (the first cases of coronavirus) prevented the controversy from gaining traction.
